Choice boards have popped up across all content areas during this virtual learning period. While many choice boards are broader in nature, some are unit-specific. As a way to wrap up the school year in a lighthearted way (especially given the difficult, challenging circumstances), I decided to design a choice board for my Honors Spanish IV students, exclusively based on our unit about art. In this unit, my students and I explored different artistic periods, movements, and famous artists from the Spanish-speaking world. In particular, I focused on Salvador Dalí and surrealism, Pablo Picasso and cubism, and "Los tres grandes" - Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and José Clemente Orozco's muralism. Over the course of the unit, we were able to identify features of these artistic movements and interpret various works of art. Likewise, we engaged in cultural comparisons, created art inspired by artistic periods, and analyzed the historical and cultural contexts of each work we explored.
As you'll see, I designed a choice board featuring some tech tools (Flipgrid, Padlet, Google Slides/Docs). Due to the fact that this is an Honors IV course with an Intermediate-Low/Mid target proficiency level, I wanted to incorporate AP tasks to maintain some rigor. I also attempted to maintain interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational elements in my choice board options, to ensure that the students were speaking, reading, writing, and listening in the target language of Spanish.
Feel free to take a glimpse at my sample choice board below, and adapt it as you see fit! Remember, this can be done for any unit. Likewise, students can select 1 or 2 options, depending on the amount of time they have to complete the activities. I hope you enjoy this, and I hope my students have fun with it too! No matter what, giving students choice is empowering and inspiring. Don't be afraid to try something new!

*You'll see that I've left (insert link) for you to insert your own links to Google Slides/Flipgrid/Padlet etc.
Con cariño,
Elena
